Spring is in full bloom and it’s filled with beautiful sights and sounds! From birds chirping to flowers blossoming, there are a number of things students can explore this season. And with the warmer temperatures, it’s the perfect time to head outdoors for an engaging adventure.
Nature scavenger hunts are a fun and easy way to get students outside to learn about the changing seasons. With their scavenger hunt list in hand, students can discover flowers, leaves, berries and other spring-related items on their nature adventure. Head outside and use this fun activity to study nature and the spring season with your students!
Materials:
- Paper or plastic bags to store the items
- Clipboards to hold the scavenger hunt list
- Pencils or pens to check off items as they find them
- Scavenger hunt list (see below)
Scavenger Hunt List:
- Dandelion
- Twig
- Leaf
- Three-leaf clover
- Acorn
- Rock or pebble
- Flower petal
- Feather
- Pinecone
- Wild berry
Instructions:
- Print copies of the scavenger hunt list.
- Divide students into groups of 2-4. Give each group a bag, clipboard, pencil and copy of the scavenger hunt list.
- Head outside to the playground or local park.
- Give students 15-30 minutes to find the items on the list. Once they’ve found an item, have them store it in their bag and check it off the list.
- Once time is up, head back inside and ask students to share what they found with the other groups.
- Bonus: Make it a contest! Have each group count the number of items they collected. The group of students who found the most items wins a treat!
